The average is roughly 2.7 goals per match — within the historical PL norm (2.5-2.8). But the distribution across teams is highly uneven, and that unevenness is exactly what creates value bets.
The Top Six and Goals: Who Drives Scoring
Manchester City and Liverpool dominate in attack, generating 2.3-2.5 goals per home match. Their fixtures against the lower third are a classic market for Over 2.5, though prices are often short because of the obviousness.
Arsenal show an interesting pattern: a strong attack paired with a solid defence. Their away games often end 1-0 or 2-0 — Under territory. Tottenham are the most unpredictable side, capable of a 4-1 win and a 1-3 loss in consecutive rounds, which makes their expected goals unstable. Chelsea swing between high-scoring home games (total 3.0+) and tight away ones (2.2).
Teams for Under 2.5 — the Main Source of Value
It's in the Under 2.5 segment that the model performs best in the PL. Everton are a classic defensive side with a home total of 1.8-2.0; their home games against mid-table opposition consistently go Under. Crystal Palace follow a similar pattern — organised defence, counter-attacking style.
Nottingham Forest have shifted to a more pragmatic style, and their away games increasingly end 0-1 or 1-1. Fulham are very cautious on the road — their average away total is below 2.0.
Home Advantage in the PL
In the Premier League, home advantage is weaker than in other top leagues: home teams win 43-45% of the time (against 46-48% in the Bundesliga and Serie A). Draws make up 24%. For the model, that means the home-field coefficient should be more modest.
BTTS in the PL
The BTTS rate in the PL is around 52% — average, but with a wide spread: Liverpool home games hit BTTS 65%+ of the time, Everton home games under 35%. The model captures this through each team's expected goals.
